Frequently Asked Questions
Who is this for?
Everyone!
Do you interact with my child?
I do not generally meet with your child in person. I encourage you to send videos, pictures, and all of your stories about your child or children. As a parent coach, I believe that you are the gatekeeper to your child’s sensory success at home and I enjoy working with you to embrace this role.
Why is the focus on more than just my child?
I am here to help support and guide families as a whole. Working with a child clinically is much different than supporting families. Our internal family systems are where real change for you as a parent and for your child can happen. Families are not linear, and neither is your child. Each family and every child are unique and special, and I am here to support you and your understanding of this sometimes very dense and complicated world of sensory differences and what that means to your family. I want to help not only support your understanding of your child’s unique sensory needs, but also the “why’s” behind the behaviors and nuisances we see as a result.
How will this help our situation?
In addition to helping guide you through understanding the topic of sensory integration more in depth, I also am a certified mindfulness parenting practitioner and coach. I care deeply about you as a parent, as our approach to our children makes all the difference in the world. I’m not only here to help support your understanding of the topics at hand, but I’m here to give you support as an individual. Empowering parents is the key to making our daily home lives “flow” a little easier and therefore our children more at ease.
I am here for YOU!
Do you accept insurance?
At this time, I do not accept insurance and am a fee-for-service provider only. Unfortunately, at this time sensory processing disorder is not considered a stand-alone distinct diagnosis by the DSM-5 or ICD, but rather a feature of other disorders. This makes it impossible to bill directly for these types of services. I do however, feel that this also allows me to create an experience that is free from restriction and guidelines of what is “billable” and not. It allows me to tailor your sessions to you, your family, and your individual needs as a whole. I try to keep sessions affordable and accessible as a result.
Do you accept FSA cards?
My services are considered health and wellness so I am able to process FSA cards for payment.
What formats are available for sessions?
In person sessions are available at my office located in Utica, NY. Sessions are also available via Zoom session or phone call.
How do we get started?
You will start with an initial session where you will fill out a few quick forms about your child and yourself/your family. This information will then be discussed at your initial meeting. Further information will then be gathered as needed, and given back to you in ways that are easily understood and broken down in language you can actually understand.
What should I expect once we’re working together?
After the initial session we will identify “key areas” that you would like to learn more about or target and address them in each subsequent session. When meeting with me, you will always be the guide of what you would like to target on that day. Some days this may mean a deep dive into complicated topics such as interroception, and some days this may mean just talking about you and your needs as a parent and human.
Is there work outside of our sessions?
My favorite thing to do is give you actionable strategies to try TODAY at home. After 20 years in the game, I’ve got some tricks up my sleeve that I’d love to share with you! I also strongly feel that being empowered to try different strategies at home gives us the confidence we need to make real progress in our home environments.
How will I remember everything?
Following every session, I provide a deeply detailed session note that incorporates everything we have discussed, equipment recommendations, and resources to try.
